Independent report on Beef & Lamb production standards released

AHDB have recently released part one of a comparison report of international beef & lamb standards, written by Birnie Consultancy which compares the Red Tractor scheme to New Zealand’s NZFAP and Australia’s LPA.

The review delivers a clear comparison of the different standards and regulatory requirements faced within Australia and New Zealand – two key markets for the English beef and lamb sector.

The report has been independently reviewed by the following experts:

  • Nigel Scollan – Queen’s University, Institute of Global Food Security 

  • Mandy Lucas – Farm Animal Welfare Consultant 

  • Jonathan Statham – Veterinary Surgeon and Livestock Sustainability Consultant 

The timeline for the beef and lamb reports are as follows:

  • April 2024: Australia and New Zealand standards

  • July 2024: Key EU country standards

  • September 2024: North America standards

  • November 2024: South America (Brazil) standards
